Sideways Rules is a racing team founded in 2002 by driver Leon Styles
that is dedicated to the sport of performance rally. Rallying involves both a
driver who controls the car and a co-driver, who is responsible for guiding the
driver along the 12-20 special stages of a rally that can cover a variety
of surfaces including snow, ice, gravel, mud and tarmac. Their car is a
finely tuned and designed machine, ready to take on rough roads and difficult weather
conditions. The sport is as difficult on the driver and co-driver as it is on the car,
with the driver and co-driver often having to deal with extreme heat and cold, long
hours in the car and the physical and mental stress induced by high speed driving.
Nevertheless, rallying is an incredible rush for drivers, co-drivers and spectators alike
when man and machine work together to achieve seemingly impossible driving maneuvers and feats of speed.
The Sideways Rules team has recently moved into additional fields of racing. In 2007, Leon competed in
his first local drifting events in preparation for its move into professional Formula D events.
Drifting is an exhibition sport where cars compete against each other and are judged on their entry speed
, angle and precision as they slide around a course of 3-5 corners. It is one of the fastest growing motor sports
in the U.S. Leon has also competed in the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb several times, which he won in 2004.
